Greetings my fellow art enthusiast!
Well, I'm assuming you're a fellow art enthusiast if you're now reading this blog. Maybe you ended up here by accident, if that be the case, you should still stay for a spell, there's plenty of pretty art to admire. Or maybe you're a prospective employer in the mind of offering me employment. If so, you should hurry on over to my contact page and drop me an email. Or you could simply be one of those "curious" individuals who passes their time by reading other peoples' blog profiles. That's okay, everybody's welcome.
Anyway, enough with the speculation! I suppose I should tell you something of myself.
Well, I'm a design graduate of the University of Newcastle (in Australia). I majored in graphic design, but my real passion is illustration. I started drawing from a very early age, mostly on my bedroom walls much to my parents' dismay. Then, once I had progressed to paper, there was no stopping me. I would spend countless hours at the kitchen table drawing dinosaurs, ninja turtles, aliens, knights, space marines, battle tanks and spaceships. In fact, in school during class, instead of doing my work, I would often draw things for my classmates and exchange the drawings for lollies, savoury biscuits and potato chips. In recent years I have discovered that drawing for money is even better. Now I can buy all the lollies, savoury biscuits and potato chips I could wish for.
Now, to really understand me and my work you must know that I grew up in a household in which anything related to science fiction or fantasy was mandatory. As a consequence, I not only had an incredibly fun and stimulating childhood, but I was also exposed to and influenced by some of the most talented and respected artists and illustrators around. Artists like Ron Cobb, Brian Froud, H.R. Giger, Ralph MacQuarrie and Syd Mead. They, among numerous others, have been a great source of inspiration for me. A nod of thanks to them all.
I suppose I should also mention that I'm very much interested in natural history illustration, film design, storyboarding, graphic and illustrated novels, and board and card game design. In fact, I'm particularly passionate about board, card and miniature games. I love games and I love gaming. I'm an avid board gamer and I have, just as I imagine all board gamers do, quite a substantial collection, one which never seems to stop growing. I'm also into miniature wargaming, a passion of mine since I was about twelve years-old and one which I'm now rediscovering after an extended hiatus from the hobby. I live and breath games. I've been told that I'm a little obsessed, and perhaps I am, but I like to think that it's a healthy obsession. The opportunity to work in the hobby gaming industry, in any capacity, would bring me an immense sense of satisfaction and achievement.
I also have a number of graphic novels and card games of my own in the works. So, if you're reading this and you're looking for someone to illustrate your next book, create the art for your next game or storyboard your next film, I may just be the person you're looking for.
I don't know that there's much more for me to say about myself for the moment. If I think of something, I'll be sure to let you know. So until then, I bid you farewell. Hope you enjoy my scribblings.
